Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine is a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Pam, Jazmine's mother, is an ex-backup artist from Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her dad landed a position as a curator for City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the landmark historical building. She is a 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan was a contralto singer for the choir for children and then sang in the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She relates that she was just 11 years old when a person was requesting her to sing for solos in church. The singer wasn't fully ready. "Then the time came that McDonald's was hosting a competition for children in cities of the world and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime at the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". Stevie Wonder sang her part on the day of the birthday celebrations of her grandson at thirteen. Sullivan was 15 when she, was first signed to Jive Records. In the age group of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. She recorded an entire album at Jive Records, however it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was eventually dropped off the record label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott and produced a number of the tracks for her debut project, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
